Having parental support and guidance is something that many people do not have. Those without parents to encourage them to do more, often do not feel empowered to finish high school or enroll in college. This can also be seen in the relationships and jobs we choose. Are we settling? I know this feeling all too well. My parents did not have the money to pay for my college and that is probably why they never asked me if I was going to go. At twenty-six years old I made the decision to enroll in a community college and get my AA degree. I wanted the degree for me, to find out for myself if I was smart enough. I wanted to show my kids that they could get a degree at any age.
Perhaps you have never had someone in your corner telling you that there is more. It does not have to be more education unless you want it to be. It could be a job you are afraid to apply for; it could be a relationship that you are afraid to leave, or it could just be fear of not being good enough.
You my friend, you are good enough!
How do I know you are good enough?
Because I was you.
I did not have anyone in my corner,
and I was afraid of not being good enough.
I let people get in my head.
~ I was told that I was stupid, so deep down I questioned my own intelligence.
~ I was told that I ruined my life because I got pregnant in high school.
~ I was told that I wasn’t a good mom.
~ I was told that no one else would want me.
~ I’ve told myself that I couldn’t do things.
~ I’ve believed that I wasn’t good enough
I have also let fear of the unknown hold me back. These are just some of the insults that I’ve had to overcome. It wasn’t easy and I still struggle with some of them. I’m consistently working to learn my worth.
Do not make the same mistakes that I’ve made.
Don’t wait for someone to tell you that you are made for more.
You are GOOD ENOUGH.
You can do anything you set your mind to.
You don’t need parents, friends, significant others or anyone else to tell you that you can something, of course it helps but it isn’t necessary.
You need to be there for yourself. You are your own support.
It took me thirty-five years to figured out my worth.
To see that I am smart, brave, kind, hardworking and good enough.
I am finally telling myself that I can do anything. Is it scary? Hell yes!
But I am doing it. I am setting goals and reaching for more.
I challenge you to do the same.
Start small if you want but do something that you’ve always wanted to do.
Prove to yourself that you can do it.
Stop settling for what is comfortable!
If you absolutely feel that you need someone to tell you that you are smart enough, brave enough, capable enough… I will tell you.
You can do ANYTHING! Self-doubt will kill your dreams! Do not give doubt the time of day.
